Enrichment
At Isham Primary, we offer a curriculum that enriches children’s lives and helps them flourish. Guided by our vision of nurturing the infinite worth of every child, we enable pupils to explore the wider world, try new experiences and discover their individual strengths. Through a broad range of shared opportunities, children develop new skills, deepen their understanding and grow together.
Alongside our wraparound care, we offer a variety of after-school clubs for all ages and interests, including choir, science club, craft club and sports-based provision.
We are also committed to providing enrichment during the school day so that all children can take part in experiences that help them flourish.
- In Year 3 or 4, all children learn to play a brass instrument through Northamptonshire Music and Performing Arts Trust (NMPAT). This 10-week programme concludes with a performance for the school and parents.
- To enrich our RE curriculum, children visit local places of worship such as the Mandir, Gurdwara and Mosque, and visitors from a range of faiths are welcomed into school.
- Children work within their ‘School Family’ teams during whole-school events, including our Christmas Craft Afternoon.
- Each year, the whole school visits the pantomime, experiencing the excitement and magic of live theatre.
- Church services are held at Harvest, Christmas, Easter and the end of the academic year, bringing our whole community together.
- Our Eco Club takes part in an annual litter pick in partnership with the local Wellie Wombles, helping children to develop responsibility for their environment and community.
- Educational trips and visits across the school include Stanwick Lakes, Hamerton Zoo, the National Space Centre and Bosworth Battlefield.
- Residential visits take place in Year 4 and Year 6, offering children the opportunity to take part in adventurous activities and experience time away from home.
- We make use of local expertise, including visits from our MP and parents who share their professional knowledge, such as medical professionals.
- Children enjoy visits from the fire service, police and ambulance service.
- Our school choir performs locally at the Castle Theatre and also take part in the national Young Voices concert.
- Each year, our Key Stage 2 children perform their end-of-year production at the Lighthouse Theatre in Kettering, using professional sound and lighting equipment.
- We hold an annual Isham Art Competition, with a winner selected from each year group.
- Sports coaches provide additional opportunities for sport and physical activity during lunchtimes.
- We aim for every child in Years 1–6 to take part in at least two external sports competitions each year.
- Peripatetic music lessons are offered to children in Years 2-6 during the school day, including piano, drums, guitar and violin. A Music Assembly is held three times a year, allowing children who learn instruments in or out of school to perform for parents and peers.
- Children are encouraged to take on leadership roles, including School Council, Eco Council, Play Leaders and Worship Team.
Our children also have the opportunity to take part in a range of Trust-wide enrichment events throughout the year, including:
- PDET Just Sing!
An opportunity for our year 4 children to join together with children at other schools within our Trust to sing a range of songs in a theatre performance. An amazing onstage experience!
- PDET Going for Gold Sports Day
A team of 15 children represent our school in our Trust's biannual inter-school Olympics! A fun day of sports competition and physical challenges for years 2 - 4.
- PDET - Maths Rocks!
A fun and hands on maths experience for our year 5 children.
